KHS Thanks All EMS Professionals for Their Service

Posted on: May 19th, 2014 by Knueppel HealthCare Services No Comments

During this Emergency Medical service (EMS) Week, KHS wishes to acknowledge and thank the EMS physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, dispatchers, and support staff that we work with, and all EMS professional around the world, for their dedication to serving the public.

From a statement from Dr. Nicole Lurie, Assistant HHS Secretary for Preparedness and Response:

“This week, our nation honors emergency medical service (EMS) professionals for their dedication to public service.

Over the past century, the field of emergency medical services has grown from hospital interns who rode in horse-drawn carriages transporting the sick and injured in a few cities during the 1800s. Today our nation draws on diverse network of nearly a million in every community. With each passing year, EMS has demonstrated increasing importance in our nation’s health care system.

EMS practitioners serve our nation in its darkest hours and at a moment’s notice. In recent months, they provided care after a deadly mudslide in Washington state, in the aftermath of a tornado in Arkansas, and when a gunman opened fire in a Navy facility in Washington, D.C. EMS practitioners work just as diligently to protect health and save lives in every American town and city every day in emergencies large or small.

At HHS, we recognize the connection between the care patients receive through the primary care providers, the acute care provided by emergency medical services practitioners and the care provided in emergency departments. We know that a seamless health care system is required, day in and day out, for our nation’s health security.

We are working through the Federal Interagency Committee on EMS to improve coordination among federal agencies that affect emergency medicine. We’re exploring ways to improve the effectiveness and reliability of Enhanced 911 services, and working with EMS practitioners to implement a strategy that ensures a culture of safety within the EMS community.

Please join me in taking a few moments during EMS week to thank an emergency medical services practitioner. EMS: Dedicated. For life.”

KHS Recognizes National Nurses Week

Posted on: May 5th, 2014 by Knueppel HealthCare Services No Comments

At KHS we work alongside many dedicated healthcare professionals, but wish to salute nurses in a special way this 2014 National Nurses Week. We share some thoughts from the Secretary of Health and Human Services:

Nurse in Action

“It is only fitting that the theme for this year’s National Nurses Week is “Nurses: Leading the Way.” After all, nurses lead the way in showing an elderly patient how to manage his or her diabetes. They lead the way in making sure their patients – children and adults – get the vaccinations they need. They lead the way in helping our young moms learn how to care for their infants. And they lead the way in conducting research to promote high-quality life for those with chronic illnesses, and to help all of us stay healthy across the lifespan.

“National Nurses Week culminates on May 12, the anniversary of the birthday of perhaps the most famous nurse, Florence Nightingale, the original nurse leader.  Please join me this week and all the weeks that follow in recognizing nurses across the country for following in Florence’s footsteps and thanking them for the critical work they do in bringing better care and better health to all Americans.”
