National Bath Safety Month is Here!

Posted on: January 1st, 2015 by Knueppel HealthCare Services No Comments

If you’ve been putting off making changes to your bathroom or to the bathroom of an elderly relative, it’s time to take action. January is National Bath Safety Month and a great time to secure potentially dangerous environments. Nearly 200,000 people are injured annually in bathrooms, with the most common bathroom accidents being slips and falls.

A shower chair, a tub-mount grab bar and a hend-held shower can all make your bathing safe!

Specialty bath safety products can help injury-proof your bathroom and keep you safe from painful falls and accidents. Here are some ideas:

  • Bath / Shower seats and chairs
  • Bathtub transfer benches
  • Floor-to-ceiling safety poles
  • Fold-down shower seats
  • Grab bars: tub and wall mount
  • Hand-held shower systems
  • Raised toilet seats with handles
  • Roll-in and portable showers
  • Shower commode chairs

If you need quality and function and you want ergonomic, design-friendly and aesthetically-pleasing fixtures to conceal the functional need, Knueppel HealthCare Services can help. Visit one of our convenient locations to see our fully equipped bathroom display.

Sometimes safety products alone are not enough; you need bathroom modifications to live independently at home. Today many of our elderly are experiencing mobility and strength limitations but are determined to ‘age in place’ in the comfort and familiarity of their own home. Bathroom modifications promote safe, easy access and increase independence and functional ability for the elderly and people living with disabilities. Whether you need grab bars or a showerhead installed, a walk-in tub installation or doors widened, we can help you.

Bathroom Safety Tips

(Adapted from the Home Safety Council)

  • Have a grab bar by the bathtub and shower.
  • Have a grab bar or safety rails by the toilet.
  • Put non-slip strips in your tub or shower.
  • Have a bath mat with a non-skid bottom next to the tub and shower.
  • Keep the bathroom floor clean and dry.
  • Use nightlights in hallways and bathrooms.

We all know family members who could use these safety tips, but some of us haven’t gotten around to insisting that they be followed. Rather than regret our inaction later, let’s act now and keep them safe. January is the month – National Bath Safety Month – to stop putting off the improvements you know will make your life, and the lives of your loved ones, safer. KHS can help make it happen!
